Dear Mary
I had no time before leaving
Boston to write you a note. I simply
left the "[...]"
The useful [...]
with good Miss Smith who
has promised to see that you have
it in good order. I hope you will
not find that I have done it
any harm. I wish I could lend
Edwin something which might

be of use to him. Is he still de-
termined to remain in this country
over next winter. The fates seem
to send him away. for things
theatrical will be better for lying
sallow a year — especially while
these troublous matters [are] being
settled. He can never go so well
or so advantagiously to himself.
but. I must not urge this upon
him further — lest he may suppose
I have some "object". be that as it
may. I have never had any but
good thoughts for or of him. if I
can at any time serve him I shall be glad.
I hope to see you on my return
to Boston next week.
until then & Ever
believe me
ever truly Yours
