Text

[page 1] My dear Mr. Fields.
Yours of the 22nd reached me yesterday. I had already sent the corrected copy of "Greenwood Leaves" by mail, and you have probably received it +++ this.— I found quite a number of little errors in the book mostly in the first part. in the preface were two or three. these I hope will all be amended. I do not know but that there may be still others. It is a horrible bore to look closely through a whole volume for errors. I am trying to write some poems this winter for the volume, but so far, I have not been well enough to do much.— By the way, as for the portrait for that volume, if Seth Cheney could take a +++ and John would engrave it, would [?]

[page 2] be the best thing we could have. I wrote to the artist, a while since about taking a portrait, as my family wish to possess one by him but I have not yet received a reply. If he is in Boston will you see him on the subject.— I am not perfectly satisfied with Osgoods [sic] picture, and dont [sic] think it best to have Cushman's again engraved. Will you send books soon to Pittsburgh. if so can you send me a package? I want Miss Mitford's "Our Village" and Giles' and Longfellow's new books. Will not each send me a copy?— Ah, and Whittier's last work. Let me know when and where you send these.
My kindest remembrance to the Ticknor, Giles and the Whipples.—
As ever, yours cordially,
Grace G.
