Text

[page 1] Dear Mr. Fields.
I have now ready and will send by express in a day or two the copy for the new collection.β€” The Sketches should of course come first.β€” I have yet one story with which to conclude that part of the book, which is not printed. but it will soon be out in the β€œEra [?]” and I will send it on to you at once. You can begin printing as soon as you receive the matter. If there is too much of it to make th a volume of the size of "Greenwood Leaves". the first nine letters (8 pages) [bracket inserted] may be omitted. and a sketch or an essay entitled "The First Patriots" page 12. Do make a note of this, so that there shall be no respect. I send proof by mail. but do

[page 2] not return copy. I can correct by memory. But have your printer [?] if he leaves out those articles. save them for me. I am getting along very well with the Juvenile. You shall have the copy by the 1st of July. "Lord willing". by the 10th "whether or no." I hope you will find the matter for this book well arranged. I have bestowed great labor upon it, and hope you will neither feel obliged to cut it down, or cut it up. Commend me to Mr. Ticknor. I will write to him before long. My kind regards to your wife and to the Whipples.
Ever sincerely yours
Grace Greenwood.
