[3149] My dear aunt
i received your letter of January 5th and I am very much obliged to you for it. I do not see why I did not receive it sooner for it did not come to me until last night. You accuse me of not writing to my Mother and the reason is that I cannot write to her without writing a letter of some length and I never can find any thing to say if I write often. I thought you would not like Aleck's affair, he certainly behaved badly about it, but I do not believe it was his wish altogether It is my opinion that the Williams's began to fear that you would try to break it off if you could so they all threw it up to him to keep his promise. I could well see that he did not care much about her, for she did every thing for him to please him and he did not do as much as move for her, but it cannot be helped for it is done now. They kept it very secret

[reverse] from me for fear I should write and tell you about it, for they did not tell me of it until the very morning they were married and a few days before +++ they were making a cake I asked them what it was for and their answer was it was a christmas pudding. +++ that they are married Henry does not do any thing but say dont do this and dont do that May I not bring my rifle and trunk away from there (I have my +++ piece here for Mr Warner allows me to hunt) and then I will not go there any more. I will put the rifle in Mr Warners care. If +++ not think it better that I should go there any more may I not go over to west +++ Saturdays for two or three of our boys come from there who go home saturdays. I will talk to you all about the navy when I see you in Albany in +++ in the mean time I will endeavor to be able to pass my examination. With Love to Miss Hays +++ and Yourself I remain your affectionate nephew
CE Cushman
