Dear Mr. Fields.
I have been in this city now about a week, am in good health, and in as good spirits as possible, considering my far remove from Boston and my beloved publishers. I have been looking for some days past for the copies of the ""Pets"" which you promised to send or Are they on their way?— I wished half-a-dozen copies.— And my dear friend, will you be so kind as to send me some notices of the little book, with such of the poems as you can spare. And will you allow permit [inserted] me to ask what percentage you allow me on both volumes?—I only wish to be able to answer the question when it is asked me.—You know

[page 2] that I leave everything in the way of business to you. knowing in whom I believe! Will you send me at once, a copy of the poems in sheets, for me to make corrections in case a second edition should ever be called for. I have not yet seen Mr. Cushman. will see him soon. I had the honor of a call from Mr. James and his daughter the other morning. I liked them both very much. If you think it best, will you send a copy of my poems to and the Pet Book to Mary Howitt and Dickens. Then, I think I have given you commissions enough. No not quite. my love please to Mrs Fields, Ticknor, Whipple [?], Thompson, Parker, Whittier, Phillips, James, Mr. Fox [?], &c &c. Here's a lady of diffusive affections for you!
