&lt;p&gt;I have to acknowledge with many thanks, your kind letter of the 21&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;. which has reached me here to day [sic]. circumstances in Mrs Garlands [sic] (Miss Stebbins [sic]) family rendered it difficult for them to come to Newport this week. &amp;amp; they wished me to wait until they could come under my wing. Therefore we came up here for the week purposing to leave on the 31" for Newport. since our arrival here&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;[174 reverse] Miss Stebbins has been so miserable a sufferer from abscess in the face that she has not left her bed for four days. &amp;amp; as yet. it is not possible for us to say when she will be fit to be moved. for &lt;del&gt;us yet &lt;/del&gt;so far [last two words inserted]. she is entirely disfigured by the swelling in her face. I will beg you to have patience with my inabilities &amp;amp; as soon as I find I am able to move[?]. I will write &amp;amp; tell you of my needs. most likely I shall come on by myself somewhere about the 2d or 4". &amp;amp; pay my little visit to you &amp;amp; Mrs Crow. &amp;amp; that Miss Stebbins will join me with her mother &amp;amp; sister afterwards&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;[175] Be sure I shall come is soon as I possibly can. It will be a true pleasure to me to meet dear Hattie at the same time. I am so glad to hear her fathers health is improving &amp;amp; that she is '+++ fat'. I had a sweet little letter from Emma by the last mail telling me they were getting on to Paris &amp;amp; that +++ +++ trip have been full of interest though full of fatigue. Dear child she is doing her duty in travelling very faithfully. Remember me most kindly&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;[175 reverse] to Mrs Crow. Miss +++ &amp;amp; the +++ ones. The two Crayons disappeared from Eleventh Street. so I suppose the Porter rec&lt;sup&gt;d&lt;/sup&gt; them. Miss Stebbins paid in New York for the mounting &lt;sup&gt;$&lt;/sup&gt;12 with the Passepartout which she brought from Paris. &amp;amp; the price for the crayons is &lt;sup&gt;$&lt;/sup&gt;100 each.
