            <text>Miss Charlotte Cushman and Edwin Booth gave ten performances at the Academy of Music, Philadelphia, commencing Dec. 31, 1860. They played &lt;em&gt;Wolsey&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;Queen Katherine&lt;/em&gt; in “Henry VIII.,” &lt;em&gt;Macbeth&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;Lady Macbeth&lt;/em&gt;, &lt;em&gt;Shylock&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;Portia&lt;/em&gt;, &lt;em&gt;Katherine&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;Petruchio&lt;/em&gt;, to crowded houses. Miss Cushman observed, “that, judging from Mr. Booth's rehearsal of Macbeth, he had a refined and very intellectual conception of the character; but she begged him to remember that Macbeth was the grandfather of all the Bowery villains.” (153)</text>
