[page 1] Dear friend
All true men should know true men, by the same instinct that the 'bee knows where the honey lays'. By this induction. I presuppose [?] that you know Mr James M Bube, & I have that to ask of him which must have a mediator. I would have asked my friend Mr Morgan in London. but that I thought I would +++ +++ to approach him in person — but here, on the spot & I find myself compelled to ask you to speak my wishes for me. You know how anxious I am as to the future of my adopted son who is ambitious to get some position in the business which Mr Bube so famously leads in this country: & he & I am so desirous that it should be learned under the influence of such a man that I want to ask Mr Bube to admit him into his house for the purpose of obtaining that education which can be more favourably learned there, than anywhere else in the world. Will you ask this for me?

[page 2] Will you tell him what you know of my boy & my wishes & purposes for him. +++ shall not be wanting to advance his interests at any moment which Mr Bube may suggest. The good word of such a man is better than a fortune. Can you help me in this matter? If you can, I know you will! My matter is at my heart & has taken too long in the telling, but you will forgive me, the more. if you cannot help me. & will believe me.
Ever very truly Yours
Charlotte Cushman
