            <text>Paul Miller writes that it "was perhaps the most ambitious of the architect's picturesque 'Swiss chalets' along the Catherine Street corridor. With its dramatically corbeled attic balcony, asymmetrical entrance tower, boldly articulated 'stick style' trim, and outswept veranda, the Cushman villa dominated the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue in the then fashionable heart of the cottage colony. Sold by Miss Cushman's estate in 1890 to James H. and Ella L.B. Darlington, the property remained intact until subsequent sale to Bernice H. (Mrs. Mason D.) Rector in 1938.
