Description
Chorley is a musical critic who writes for The Athenaeum. He also writes plays, e.g., "Duchess Eleanor" for which he asks for Cushman's support. When Charlotte Cushman performs as Queen Katherine after Rosalie's death, starting in October 1847, Chorley is thrilled.
Robert Browning meets Cushman at Chorley's. Cushman repeatedly mentions Chorley in her letters until 1876, for example in her correspondence with Sidney Lanier. Chorley's correspondence with Cushman is also included in Stebbins's biography of the actress. Most of the letters from Chorley to Cushman included in ArchivalGossip.com were sent between 1845 and 1859.
